Istanbul has Inspiring souls floating in its breeze…
My love story with this grand city began 2 decades ago when I was backpacking through Europe for a year and stayed here a few months longer than expected. Everything I saw and did, everyone I met and befriended, was simply pure magic.
It was then that I had my first encounter with rug dealers. Knowing absolutely ziltch about carpets - we talked about other things - I just loved and admired their observations when they passionately spoke amongst themselves about unique pieces with their impressive knowledge of Art and History.
Even though I came back sporadically for short visits every once in a while since the 90’s, Never Ever in a million years did I imagine working alongside them one day !
But, between the tea gardens and massive architectures of all eras and empires, cute stray cats and xillions of old rugs, I guess it was just a matter of time before I settled and made Istanbul my new home 3 years ago. At thirtysomething, I sold the few things I owned, stored my sentimental valuables, packed a few bags and left beautiful and friendly Montreal for new adventures in what I consider the heart of the world.
I had no plan. I simply followed my instinct …and Istanbul's soul's breeze.
Little by little, I discovered that this country is textile paradise. It soon became crystal clear to me that my foodies background would be left to the past and that I was on the path to a new passion. Decor!
So, here I am, every day, scouring fabric shops and running after old men carrying piles of rugs on their back. Scrutinizing daily bazaars on both continents and dealing with sometimes harsh but somehow sympathetic merchants.
I just love hunting for new eclectic models and amazing color combinations. I am always amazed at the amount of old rugs that are sitting here, waiting to be resuscitated and tell a new story.
I believe that each kilim pillow has a story hidden in its threads and I, with some wonderful help, have them ready for a new life somewhere in your house.
Along the way, I learned a lot about kilims and anatolian rugs and I started to combine them with other textiles. Carry old and create new, side by side.
The Orient charm of hand made mosaic Lamps is also hard to resist so I found a big lovely family who spend their days creating these beauties.
After being part of the wonderful Etsy adventure for 2 years, It's now time to fly on my own!
Coming home to style and beauty is extremely comforting, so possibilities are endless. Still, I don't use my kitchen as much as I used to but my atelier is overflowing with pillows, fabrics and ideas. My head is constantly boiling with exhilarating decor ideas and I know that you will always find an item to love and enjoy forever in my Bazaar.
I run this shop full time with help from Turkish artisan and craftmen friends. And I’m loving every minute of it !
Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street. Fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening. - Coco Chanel
